{"id":2716,"date":"2011-02-28T01:33:14","date_gmt":"2011-02-28T07:33:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gregsowell.com\/?p=2716"},"modified":"2011-02-22T17:00:01","modified_gmt":"2011-02-22T23:00:01","slug":"ubiquiti-unifi-outdoor-support","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gregsowell.com\/?p=2716","title":{"rendered":"Ubiquiti Unifi &#8211; Outdoor Support"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So UBNT has this great controller <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ubnt.com\/unifi\">software\/hardware compliment called Unifi<\/a><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ubnt.com\/media\/product\/unifi\/hardware-overview\/screenshot-01.jpg\" title=\"unifi\" class=\"alignnone\" width=\"687\" height=\"479\" \/><br \/>\nAlong with the coolzies hardware is a great set of software.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ubnt.com\/media\/product\/unifi\/software-overview\/screenshot-01.jpg\" title=\"software\" class=\"alignnone\" width=\"687\" height=\"479\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As far as the hardware goes they have a standard range and a long range version of the hardware.<br \/>\nIt looks like 400&#8242; and 600&#8242;.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ubnt.com\/media\/product\/unifi\/hardware-overview\/screenshot-02.jpg\" title=\"units\" class=\"alignnone\" width=\"687\" height=\"479\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The software has map overlays and a guest system.  What I like is the centralized administration of all of the APs.  It will go out and discover them.  You can then tell each one to blink to locate them and mark them on your map.<\/p>\n<p>The only think that seemed missing was an outdoor option.  My contention was why not let the Unifi software control one of the outdoor APs?  Well, it has been announced on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ubnt.com\/forum\/showthread.php?t=25942&#038;page=4\">this forum thread<\/a> that they are going to allow the control of the Pico&#8217;s!  You will be able to load the PicoM2 with the Unifi firmware in version 2.0, though there is no timeline on it yet.  This will allow you to easily administer outdoor deployments such as golf courses and such.<\/p>\n<p>I think I might be doing a large deployment of these relatively soon&#8230;maybe.
